Singer-songwriters Carrie Newcomer and Krista Detor and writers Phil Gulley and Scott Russell Sanders will weave story and song together in a harmony that explores the playful side of spirituality. These four award-winning and beloved Hoosier artists will share humorous essays, tall tales, and tender songs that blend whimsy and wonder with mystery and merriment in a performance that is by turns romantic, spiritual, and hilarious.
All Artists will have CDs and books available at the show, including Krista Detor's Chocolate Paper Suites, Philip Gulley's The Evolution of Faith: How God Is Creating a Better Christianity, Carrie Newcomer's Kindred Spirits: A Collection and Scott Russell Sander's Earth Works: Selected Essays.
Carrie Newcomer has been described by Barbara Kingsolver as “poet, storyteller, snake-charmer, good neighbor, friend and lover, minister of the wide-eyed gospel of hope and grace” and has been listed as one of the 50 most influential songwriters of the past 50 years. She facilitates workshops internationally on the topics of songwriting, creative writing and spirituality, vocation and activism.

Philip Gulley is a pastor, writer and storyteller from Danville, Indiana. He has published 17 books, including the acclaimed Harmony series and If Grace Is True, and has hosted Porch Talk with Phil Gulley and Across Indiana on WFYI. He received his Master of Divinity degree and Doctor of Humane Letters degree from CTS and is pastor at Fairfield Friends Meeting near Indianapolis.
Krista Detor tours the globe, conducting songwriting workshops and performing with artists such as Suzanne Vega and the Neville Brothers. Detor collaborated with other Indiana artists on the CD and stage show of Scott Russell Sanders’ Wilderness Plots. Detor is a lecturer at Stanford University, using her album Chocolate Paper Suites to teach Writing and Rhetoric.
Scott Russell Sanders is the author of twenty books, including A Private History of Awe and A Conservationist Manifesto. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He was named 2010 National Winner of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award. He is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English at Indiana University.
